Daschielle Louis is an educator writer, and multidisciplinary artist native to Broward County, Florida. Raised within a Haitian Caribbean American sphere of influence, Daschielle seeks to understand how language and literacy create both opportunity and barrier within transient societies. Their work uses fluid folkloric horror to examine blackness, womanhood, mental, physical, and spiritual wellness and their connections to home in South Florida and the Haitian diaspora. Their current research interests include Black migration between the Caribbean and Florida, Black linguistic traditions, Caribbean literature with a focus on Haitian Literature written in Haitian Kreole/ French, mental illness within community, Black religions and spirituality.

Daschielle’s poetry and short stories have appeared in spaces such as Token Magazine, Juked, Linden Avenue Literary Journal, Moko Magazine, Panku Literary and Arts Magazine, Rise Up Review, Transition Magazine at The Hutchins Center, Vagabond City Lit, WusGood Magazine and Dear Damsel. They received fellowships from Winter Tangerine, Pink Door Writing Retreat, and The Watering Hole. They were a resident artist in poetry with the Hues Foundation while also serving as Editor-in-Chief of Sycamore Review, developing the early iteration of a hybrid poetry collection with support from the Hues Foundation. Their support of early and emerging writers and creators began in the home, and within spiritual safe spaces. In 2022, Atelye Daschielle, LLC was founded; a liberation arts and letters studio seeking to create safe spaces for Black writers, artists, and creators to create work and discourse within literature and art centering our own traditions, languages, and histories.
